Nausicaa, the French National Sea Centre, works to increase awareness among people of all ages and backgrounds to the riches provided for us by the biodiversity of the seas - food, healthcare, a chance to breathe and a means of heating our homes. It allows us to dream, fires up our imagination and acts as a source of invention. The sea gives us all that.

More groups of childen aged between 3 and 18 have been coming to Nausicaa for more than 15 years and many of them have taken part in workshops that help them appreciate the diversity of marine life in ways that are fun. It seemed worthwhile putting the teaching material from some of the workshops together in this toolkit so that you, as teachers, instructors or educators, can use these activities with children.

We hope that these teaching aids will help you to increase the awareness of the children for whom you are responsible, in a way that is fun!

Philippe VALLETTE,
Director General of Nausicaa
Co-President of the World Ocean Network
President of the World Festival of Underwater Pictures
